IP & Hosting Lookup

Paste a domain or IP address to see the server behind it — IP address, hosting provider, ASN, and an approximate location. Free, instant, no signup.

What this checks & how it works

It resolves the domain to its IP address via DNS, then looks up that address against a public IP geolocation database to identify the hosting provider or network operator (ASN), the ISP, and an approximate city-level location. If you paste an IP address directly, the DNS step is skipped entirely.

Why this is useful for SEO work

Knowing what a site actually runs on helps explain things a page-level audit can't: whether a competitor is on a premium CDN versus shared hosting, whether a site migrated providers around the time its rankings moved, or whether several domains you're comparing are secretly hosted on the same infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the location match where the company is actually based?

IP geolocation identifies where the server's network connection is registered, not the company's office. A site can be legally based in one country while its hosting or CDN infrastructure sits in another — this is completely normal and doesn't affect SEO.

What does the ASN number mean?

An Autonomous System Number identifies the network operator that owns the block of IP addresses — usually the hosting provider, cloud platform, or CDN, not the website owner directly. It's a useful way to spot who a site's infrastructure actually runs on, even when a custom domain hides it.

Why do I see multiple IP addresses for one domain?

Sites behind a CDN or load balancer often publish several A or AAAA records, and DNS can return them in a different order on each query for basic load distribution. This tool geolocates the first address returned; the others are listed alongside it.

Is this the same as a WHOIS lookup?

No — WHOIS-style registration data (registrar, registration date, expiry) is covered by the Domain Age Checker. This tool answers a different question: which server and network is actually serving the site's traffic right now.

Does this work for an IP address directly, not just a domain?

Yes — paste an IPv4 or IPv6 address directly and it skips the DNS step, going straight to the hosting lookup.
